What Is Kamla Bhasin Award?
This award is derived from famous feminist Kamla Bhasin (as the name suggests) who died in the month of September 2021. She played a significant role in the movement of women in India and other countries in South Asia. National Foundation for India, the Azad Foundation, and iPartner India came together to organisation the award. Not only the trophy but the winners also get Rs.1,00,000 amount.

Vidya Rajput and Nitisara Rai won this award. Nitara Rai who hails from Nepal is the co-owner as well as executive director of an organisation which is known by the name Shakti Milan Samaaj (SMS). Her childhood was miserable as when she was 13 years old, she was forced to get involved in the work of s*x and not only this she is also HIV positive. Even after facing traumatizing childhood, she became an inspiration to other women and through her organisation, she supports more than a thousand women who are HIV Positive in Nepal.

She provides healthcare, education and dignified work. She continues to face many social discrimination and boycotts even after her save quoting her condition HIV. But she never gave up and fight against all these social crimes and discrimination. After receiving this award, she feels proud and thankful to all who acclaimed her work. On the other side, Vidya Rajput who hails from India is a transwoman and belongs to Chhattisgarh, Baster. In the year 2009, she co-established an organisation that she named “Mitwa”. This organisation organises collectivists’ transpersons and also raises awareness of their rights and also asks them to face the situation rather than hide it. She also asks such people to fight for their right to self-identify. According to the reports, “The work of Rajput with Mitwa is based on the struggle, discrimination and hardship of her own life. Over the past many years, through training and advocacy, Vidya has been able to provide many changes in the lives of individuals and affect the policy of the state.”
