Puno is survived by his wife, their three children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Veteran broadcaster Dong Puno passed away on Tuesday, September 13, at the age of 85. He was best known for hosting ABS-CBN’s “Superstar” which he hosted for three decades. Born in Manila on November 12, 1932, Puno is hailed as the first Filipino to host a game show in the country. Puno had also been a voice actor and an anchor for several ABS-CBN programs. He was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) in 2006.  His death was confirmed by his son Roy Puno Jr., who posted it on Twitter. Veteran broadcaster Dong Puno passed away on Sunday evening, according to a statement released by the ABS-CBN News Channel.

Puno is best known as a political commentator for ABS-CBN’s nightly news program TV Patrol and for anchoring the network’s coverage of presidential elections since 1986. He also hosted his own talk show, Wheel of Fortune, from 1992 to 2005. Puno served as the president of the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster sa Pilipinas from 2003 to 2011. In 2007, he received an award from the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines for his contributions to Philippine journalism. Puno started his career back in 1974 as a reporter for ABS-CBN. He would go on to become one of the most respected news anchors in the Philippines and a household name among Filipinos.
