Who Was Karen Poniachik?
Karen was born on the 20th of April 1965 and she was a Chilean journalist, consultant, and politician as well. Karen has been in various posts including the minister of mining and energy while she served under the presidency of Michelle Bachelet. In order to escape the period and the rule of the Nazis, Karen’s family came from Romania to Chile. After the arrival of leftist popular unity, Karen moved along with her family to the United States and that was in 1970. Years later in 1973, she moved to Chile again and started working there as a journalist later n becoming the minister of mining after she actively participated in politics.

Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was just 35 years old and she then went for treatments like radiation treatment and others for recovery. After her successful recovery, she awaited for the tumor to reactivate, and her doctors said that she should wait 5-6 years in order to become a mother. Later Karen went on to become a single mother and she also raised her child all by herself. In 2007 she went into politics after she became a mother in 2004 at the age of 44. Karen’s breast cancer was the reason suspected behind her death as she did not suffer any illness or disease other than her breast cancer. Karen passed away on the 12th of October 2022, Wednesday.

The demise news was confirmed by journalist Patricia Politzer who tweeted about Karen’s demise and said that with great sadness she is announcing the demise of Karen Poniachik. Patricia added that Karen was a great mother, a woman with passion and professionalism, and a great friend as well. She added that Karen was a feminist, brave, humanist who was always committed to her work. She then added and sent condolences to Karen’s family and her friends as well while she added that Karen will never be forgotten. National mining society and Energy minister Diego Pardow also sent their condolences to Karen’s family as well.
